Chip and Shari Lain gave a wonderful slideshow presentation of their trip to the land down under, Australia. Chip worked the projector while Shari gave slide by slide narration of the month long adventure with fellow turf growers in Australia. It was quite informative and exciting, great job!

Warwick Supervisor Mike Sweeton spoke about the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility purchased by the town to be converted to a corporate park for economic development.</p>

Every year for the past seven years, the Kiwanis Club of Minisink Valley has gone into the two elementary schools in the Minisink Valley School District to give every third grade student a personal dictionary.

The past two year Kiwanians have been in the individual class rooms handing out the dictionary and giving the class a quick lesson on how to use a dictionary along with a short history lesson on Noah Webster.  It took Noah 22 years to collect over 700,000 words and their meanings to finish his dictionary.

Over 1,200 people braved the cold and snowy weather to attend the Kiwanis club of Minisink Valley Annual Pancake Day. The hungry customers were served delicious "secret recipe" pancakes with local maple syrup, homemade applesauce, eggs and our world famous sausage. 
The proceeds from the day will help support our scholarship fund. This year we will present 19 Minisink graduates with a check for $1,000.
This year's Pancake Day was dedicated to the memory of Milton Arthur Lain, a Minisink Kiwanis member who past away last October. Art was the ticket king, consistently selling the most tickets to this event each year.

Rollie Schofield, Membership Committee Chairman, conducted the induction of our new members, Sue Petak and Barbara McCormack. He read the Objects of Kiwanis and they promised to abide by them. Cynthia Ewanciw Morse, Sue’s sponsor spoke... of Sue’s dedication to her business and various causes such as Habitat for Humanity and her church. Elaine Flynn spoke of Barbara’s affiliation with Kiwanis through her husband Jim and how Barbara has participated in every project since joining the club. Congratulations Sue and Barbara. Soup On Saturdays - A Minisink Kiwanis sponsored project, collects soup from a number of areas in our community and distributes them to local families and food pantries. This photo shows about 500 cans of soup and 15 cases of Ramon Noodles that was collected by the Minisink Valley Central School and the Greenville Senior Leisure Club. The Kiwanis Club of Minisink Valley has suffered a tremendous loss, Art Lain passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013.

Milton Arthur Lain III of Westtown, NY, a retired dairy farmer and lifelong resident of the area, entered into rest on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was 88.

The son of the late Milton Arthur Lain Jr. & Sara Taylor Lain, he was born April 27, 1925 in Unionville, NY.

He graduated from Friends Academy, Locust Valley, NY and attended Tusculum College in Greenville, TN.

Edward Holst of Westtown was installed as president of the Kiwanis Club of Minisink Valley during the club’s meeting on Tuesday October 8, 2013, at The Erie Trackside Manor. Also installed were President-Elect Chip Lain, Vice President Lewis Lain, Treasurer Rich Malarski, and Secretary Elizabeth Holst.

In addition, the following members were elected to the club’s board of directors: Celie Bell, William Jacobs and James McCormack.

The immediate past president is James Burtis. He will continue to serve on the club board for the next year.

Jack “Mr. Volunteer” Eagan was presented with Life Membership in Kiwanis International. Life Membership is the highest honor to be bestowed on a member.
